Long time readers of this blog, all two of you, may have noticed that I don’t really write much here. Mostly because I don’t much like The Writing. But! Sometimes, just sometimes, there is something special that I really, really have to tell you both about. Today, dear readers, is one of those special moments.
My dear friend Brigette (aka RoboGeisha) has a play on at the SpaceFrame at JCE for the rest of the week. It is called “Words: The Consequence of Sound” and I implore you, I urge you to watch it. It is about global warming and heated speech and communication, with a cunning use of genre and all manner of other clever things. A world in various states of collapse is evoked by various cunning theatrical devices.
At times it reminded me of Margaret Atwood.
I’m not much good at writing about theatre, I don’t know quite what to say: there were actors (great); there was a minimal stage; there were some lights; at some points there was sound; by all accounts there was a great script and, I assume, formidable direction. And if nothing else, there were cookies on sale at the box office. So there’s that.
At any rate, I recommend that if you have any interest at all in theatre that you go watch the show.
Oh yes, they’re trying to take the show to a festival in the Czech Republic and need to raise funds, so buying one of those cookies will be for a good cause. Buy two. Bring a friend.
